:: Description ::
The farm of Yader and Karen (El Cipres) is located in one of the prime coffee cultivating regions of Jinotega in a unique microclimate. They live with their kids (Jesús and Elvin) at such a high altitude that their farm’s coffee is harvested two months after the rest of the country’s coffee due to the colder climate. Because of temperature, their beans have a slower maturity rate, allowing them to collect more nutrients. The result is denser, sweeter beans and complex cupping notes. Yader used funds from this past harvest to buy a truck, but after becoming a truck owner he decided to sell it and instead invest in more horses to help carry their coffee off their very steep and hard-to-reach mountainside. They use loans from GMCG to fertilize and maintain healthy coffee trees. 

Yader and Karen are paid more than Fair Trade organizations pay, receive loans, free transport, technical support, quality premiums, and other benefits through working with GMCG. Gold Mountain Coffee Growers works with Yader and Karen to ensure only the reddest coffee cherries are picked, that fermentation levels are optimal, that washing and drying are thorough, and that imperfections are selected out on raised beds. Results shine through in cuppings.
